FDA Advises Consumers to Stop Using Zicam

This week the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an advisory urging consumers to stop using three Zicam product because they are associated with more than a hundred cases if anosomia -- a loss of smell that can be permanent.

Vitamin Supplementation During Pregnancy Helps Fetal Growth

Baby BlushingAfter reviewing more than a dozen well designed studies that looked at the relationship between vitamin and/or mineral supplementation and birth outcomes, researchers from Canada have concluded that prenatal multimicronutrient supplementation is associated with a significantly reduced risk of low birth weight and with improved birth weight when compared with iron–folic acid supplementation.

Senate Passes Historic Tobacco Bill

In an historic 79 to 17 vote, the US Senate has approved legislation that would allow government oversight of the tobacco industry. A similar bill was passed by the US Congress last month.

Several Skin Products Recalled Due to Possible Contamination

Lotion PhotoClarcon Biological Chemistry Laboratory Inc. of Roy, Utah has agreed to recall thousands of potentially contaminated skin care products. The recall comes after Food and Drug Adminsitration (FDA) inspection of a skin product producing plant operated by Clarcon revealed dangerous manufacturing practices and led to the discovery of several contaminated products.
