| Fat Intake Linked with Pancreatic Cancer |
| Sunday, 28 June 2009 09:11 |
Results published this week appear to confirm what has long been suspected, ingestion of large amounts of fat/fatty acids from dairy and red meat sources increases an individuals risk for some types of cancer. After adjusting models for the occurrence of other factors commonly linked with increased cancer rates including smoking status, body mass index (BMI), and diabetes, the researchers found that individuals with high amounts of fat intake -- especially from dairy and red meat sources, were at a 19% or higher increased risk for being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer compared to individuals with low levels of fat intake.
Results from the study were published online this week by the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.
