| Several Skin Products Recalled Due to Possible Contamination |
| Wednesday, 10 June 2009 05:41 |
Clarcon Biological Chemistry Laboratory Inc. of Roy, Utah has agreed to recall thousands of potentially contaminated skin care products. The recall comes after Food and Drug Adminsitration (FDA) inspection of a skin product producing plant operated by Clarcon revealed dangerous manufacturing practices and led to the discovery of several contaminated products.
Consumers are being told not to use any Clarcon products including: Citrushield Lotion Dermasentials DermaBarrier
Dermassentials by Clarcon Antimicrobial Hand Sanitizer
Iron Fist Barrier Hand Treatment
Skin Shield Restaurant
Skin Shield Industrial
Skin Shield Beauty Salon Lotion
Total Skin Care Beauty
Total Skin Care Work
In their press release, the FDA noted that the "Findings from the FDA’s recent inspection of the Clarcon facility are particularly concerning because the products are promoted as antimicrobial agents that claim to treat open wounds, damaged skin, and protect against various infectious diseases." As such, it is possible that contaminated products might be applied directly to open skin wounds which could more easily lead to infection.
The FDA is advising health care professionals and consumers to report side effects or product quality problems associated with the use of this product to the FDA's MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program. Regular Mail: use postage-paid FDA form 3500 and mail to MedWatch, 5600 Fishers Lane, Rockville, MD 20852-9787; Fax: 800-FDA-0178; Phone: 800-FDA-1088.
