CRITICAL MUST DO #3: Be very careful about medications, herbs and vitamins – including over the counter medications. Books with More Information about Taking Medications, Vitamins and Herbs During Pregnancy
CRITICAL MUST DO #4: Use ONLY natural bug killing chemicals in the house and in the garden if you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant.
Many commercially-produced insecticides and pesticides (the stuff used to kills bugs) contain dangerous chemicals that can seriously harm young infants and the developing fetus. Avoid using these chemicals if you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant, or breastfeeding. If you own your own home and have a service spray on an ongoing basis consider stopping the service. If you rent request that the landlord not do any inside spraying. If you do any gardening switch to organic methods of insect control. If you absolutely must use some kind of pest control substance try using one of the many natural insect control alternatives available. They are harder to find but safe for Mom and baby (and better for everyone else too including the family pets). Books with More Information about Natural Insect Control

CRITICAL MUST DO #5: If you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant and you MUST remodel your house, leave and let someone else do it.
Building materials often contain PCBs, lead, asbestos and other chemicals that can be extremely harmful to young infants and the developing fetus. As such, if you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant, or breastfeeding and you must remodel, consider living somewhere else until the remodel is done. This is especially important if you live in a house or apartment built before the 1980’s. Many of the laws limiting the use of PCBs, lead, asbestos, and other dangerous building materials were not in place prior to this time and as such, these chemicals are quite likely to be released during a remodel. There are lots of other important strategies that can help reduce chemical exposures during and after any remodeling. Consider buying or checking out a book that can help you accomplish the most chemical-free remodel possible.
